The mission of the Blue Springs School District is to create an educational community in which each individual acquires knowledge, develops skills, and functions as a literate citizen to achieve personal goals.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education reported that we have once again received a perfect score on our Annual Performance Report. This is the eleventh year in a row that we have received a perfect score. This is determined by a number of factors including student achievement. The Blue Springs School District is one of only seven school districts in this state to have eleven consecutive years of Distinction.

The Blue Springs School District honored 51 employees at a retirement reception.  Each employee was introduced by their supervisor highlighting their contributions to the students and staff in the district.  The employees have a combined 1,022 years of service to the BSSD.

BSSD Celebrates its Volunteers at Annual Brunch
The District recognizes the outstanding contributions its volunteers provide each year at the annual Volunteer Brunch. Thursday morning, BSSD celebrated 825 volunteers that worked an amazing 53,182 hours this school year. Each school volunteer of the year was honored along with PTA presidents and members of Youth Friends, Success by Six, The Closet, Cub Care and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Karen Manning of William Yates Elementary won the Goulden-Bain Award, honoring the volunteer with the most hours worked. Karen has won the award the past eight years.

 

William Bryant Elementary Celebrates 25 Years
An overflow crowd helped William Bryant Elementary celebrate its 25th anniversary this week. Current and former students, parents and staff celebrated with an all-school picnic and a reception inside the media center. Former Principals Cathy Paul and Jerry Snider joined current Principal Doug Nielsen in honoring past and present Bobcats. Visitors were able to browse yearbooks, photos and news articles from throughout the school’s history.

Cordill-Mason Honors Principal Al Michelson
Cordill-Mason Elementary staff, students, parents and friends from throughout the District helped Principal Al Michelson celebrate his retirement Thursday evening. Al has been Principal at CME the past 12 years and joined the District in 1978. In Thursday's ceremony, it was announced that the CME Media Center will be named in Al's honor. He also received gifts from CME staff and a proclamation from the Missouri House of Representatives.

BSSD Celebrates 25-Year Employees
The Blue Springs School District honored its 25-year employees in a ceremony Thursday afternoon. A group of 22 employees from throughout the District were introduced by their supervisors in front of the Board of Education and friends and family. Congratulations to all our 25-year employees! 

BSHS DECA Earns National Awards
A group of 18 Blue Springs High School DECA students competed against 14,000 students at the International Career and Development Conference in Salt Lake City. Each individual or group competed against approximately 150 others in their category. Only 16 students from Missouri placed in the top 10 and four were from BSHS. Dylan Hilton earned the top score in his Marketing Communications exam; Jess Gomez was a finalist in Apparel & Accessories Marketing (test and role plays); Cara Hartwig, Reyndon Larimer, Abby Mercer were finalists in Community Service Project for the 5k for MDA (30-page paper and presentation). BSHS also finished third in the nation for its MDA fundraising chapter and received an award on stage.

VSE's Parker Named BSSD Teacher of the Year
Julie Parker, a first grade teacher at Voy Spears, Jr. Elementary, was named the District's 2012-13 Teacher of the Year Friday morning. All 22 building Teachers of the Year were honored in a breakfast at the Gale T. Bartow Administrative Center. Parker has been with the District for seven years, five at VSE. In her speech, Julie thanked those that believed in her and gave her the inspiration to be a teacher. When she returned to VSE, the entire school was awaiting her in a surprise assembly. Congratulations to Julie Parker and all of our 2012-13 Teachers of the Year.

State Soccer Returns to Blue Springs June 1-2
Blue Springs South and Blue Springs High Schools will host the girls state soccer championships June 1 and June 2. The Blue Springs School District includes the only high schools to currently host any state events sponsored by the Missouri State High School Activities Association when the boys state soccer championships played in November.
The schedule for the three classes of girls soccer will be the same as for the boys championships last fall. Blue Springs South will host Class 3 and Class 2 semifinals Friday, June 1. Class 2 semifinals will be at 12 and 2 p.m. in Larry Stewart Memorial Stadium, followed by the Class 3 semifinals at 4 and 6 p.m. Meanwhile, BSHS will host the Class 1 state semifinals the same day at noon and 2 p.m.
On Saturday, June 2 BSHS will be the site of the Class 1 third place game at 10 a.m. and the Class 2 third place game at noon. Blue Springs South will host four games on Saturday, including the three state championship games. The schedule at South will be Class 3 third place, noon; Class 1 championship, 2 p.m.; Class 2 championship 4 p.m., and Class 3 championship, 6 p.m.
